Date: 2025-05-07 05:21 pm (UTC)Something I hate: Itchy fabrics! I have become more aware of textures as I've gotten older (or maybe just synthetic fabrics are more prevalent), but a lot of polyester blends just Feel Bad on my skin.
Somewhere I have been: Irvine, California. Originally for college tours lo and many years ago, most recently because it was a mini-day trip with a friend and she wanted to visit a restaurant she used to like, and which I've completely forgotten the name of. I mostly napped in the car and can't tell you much other than that I enjoyed spending time with my friend but the city itself didn't make as much impression on me. UC Irvine's nickname 'University of Chinese Immigrants' meant there were more Asian restaurants and shops around!
Somewhere I would like to go: Italy! I've never visited the Mediterranean (and frankly need to get a new passport), and am more specifically interested in looking at archaeological sites like Pompeii. While I'm not a huge Roman history nerd, I just think it would be really interesting to have my feet on the ground and visiting sites I've only heard of through books and podcasts!
Someone I know: I first thought of someone from work, then unfortunately two former fandom acquaintances who turned out to be assholes! So I'm digging deep and saying imakemywings, also known as
A Beloved Movie: The Incredibles! It's a movie that's stood up on multiple rewatches and it's just a lot of fun!
The Best Book: An Immense World by Ed Yong! It's a really fabulous nonfiction book about animal senses and the way they navigate through the world. It includes a lot of the obvious 'extremes' that we already know about (like bats using sound for echolocation, or that dogs are capable of better smell than we are) but also the way it shapes an animal's behaviors and methods of interacting with the environment. It's just really fascinating and constantly blowing my mind!
My favourite song: 'Immortals' by Fall Out Boy! Every time I hear "they say we are what we are, but we don't have to be" I just get chills.
These are deceptively difficult to come up with! But I had fun answering! :D

Date: 2025-05-12 08:09 am (UTC)I feel the same about itchy fabrics ;A; But if you come to visit Italy in the right season you'll need something nice and breathable ;D Or as little clothing as possible, two summers ago we were all melting ç_ç Hopefully this year'll be kinder to us *crosses fingers*
Yay for people who are not assholes and are actually great friends <333 Also, great taste in music C:

Date: 2026-02-05 08:43 pm (UTC)Something I love: Tea! Whether it's green tea, oolong, chai, Earl Grey, or English breakfast, I love having a cup to start my day.
Something I hate: Trolls. 'Nuff said. :P
Somewhere I have been: Toronto, when I was 12! My mom was visiting some of her old high school friends who had moved to Canada, my sister and I went along, and years later it's funny that while yes, I remember sightseeing and things, my most vivid memories are actually discovering one of my mom's friends had a daughter who was really excited to share the Digimon fanfic she was reading (I didn't know what fanfic was yet) and we went to a local farm to pick strawberries. There was also an orchard with lots of bunnies hopping around.
Somewhere I would like to go: Tokyo. I've talked with various friends about if we ever do a trip to Japan and there are many places that would be fun to visit! I don't even have a specific itinerary of must-visit destinations in mind, I just want to admire sights and enjoy time with people I love.
Someone I know: The younger son of one of my mom's friends. He's 4 or 5 years older than I am and the only other person in my mom's Chinese-American friend network who's openly queer. Tbh we weren't especially close as kids (his older brother did more babysitting with me) and we haven't talked in years, but sometimes I want to sit down and pick over his brain about how it felt growing up. Also maybe rib him about the fact he chose to study Russian literature for college, which his parents weren't thrilled about, but maybe if he'd chosen Chinese literature they would have been more accepting. :P
(No, I wouldn't actually tease him about it unless we were much closer and he was open to it. The real issue as far as I could tell was that his parents wanted him to go into STEM like his brother.)
A Beloved Movie: Toy Story is a classic, though I haven't watched it in years. Perhaps I should remedy that!
The Best Book: So many book titles start with 'The,' does that count as cheating? :P
This is How You Lose the Time War is one of my favorites, I love the language and the epistolary self-indulgence, how it just carries me away with sheer loveliness and how the format helps carry parts of the story as well as just twisting neatly back on itself!
My favourite song: Thnks Fr Th Mmrs by Fall Out Boy still gets me, and it's one that's hit differently at different times.
Thank you for playing! Better belated than never response, right? ;)
