Challenge #1
In your own space, introduce yourself! Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.
If you already have a sticky post or full bio, make sure they’re up to date so that people visiting your journal can learn something about you. Update your interests; make sure your fic posts are current; check that all your links work, etc. If you don’t already have a post introducing yourself, create one!
Hi hello I'm Choco! My pronouns are she/her and they/them and I'm a multifandom mess. I came to fandom relatively late; I'm in my 30s, and only started being active in fandom as of 2013. I was fandom-adjacent during high school, thanks to having friends in the Anime Club, but didn't really dive in until later. (Fun fact: I still remember when fic was rated as 'lemon' or 'lime,' but again. Mostly due to having friends who were Extremely Into fandom, even though that terminology was pretty much gone by the time I started. I also remember glomping and the yaoi paddles.)
I am mostly into video game fandoms (Dragon Age, Fallout, and Mass Effect are probably the most obvious examples from my fic tags!) but I also dabble in Harry Potter and She-Ra and the Princesses of Power. I will also write (or yell about!) other things I enjoy, like the books I've been reading or other games I've played.
And...this prompt is also a good reminder that I need to update my interests! :D *goes to do so*

Date: 2020-01-03 08:59 pm (UTC)oh. my. god.
The flashbacks I just had XD
The anime convention nearest me has been around long enough that there are actually rules in the handbooks that state no glomping. I just imagine lil' weeboos not understanding this concept while I feel like a million years old lol

Date: 2020-01-04 09:21 pm (UTC)haha, i also remember the lemon-lime distinction. my first language is spanish and we just have one word for both fruits. fanfic was the first time i came across the distinction both in the literal and metaphorical sense lol
also, i saw something about a josephine/vivienne fic in your other post? which?? YES. GOOD. i love those two so much. they're even better together!!
mind if i friend you? (subscribe, i think?? i haven't figured out the dreamwidth mechanics quite yet ;;; )

Date: 2020-01-07 07:03 pm (UTC)And HECK YEAH Josie/Vivienne is my jam!!!
Obligatory squeeing: who are your favorite characters from each canon? (or each game, in the case of multi-game canons?) :D

Date: 2020-01-09 05:38 pm (UTC)asdlfkj ;; i have so many favorites. and canons. and headcanons ^^;
ok, so for da:o it has to be zevran, leliana and morrigan. if i had to pick one DA romance (which is a really difficult thing to do), i'd pick zevran. (i have a thing for flirty chaotic neutral veering towards chaotic good rogues, as you will gather from my list lol).
da2: isabella, merrill. but! i also love varric. he is so great as an unreliable narrator. and aveline (i'm kinda sad i can't smooch my super tall buff paladin girlfriend tbh). and fenris. i get mad at fenris a lot for his mage opinions, but i see where he's coming from and i love him anyways. he's like an angry cat.
i get why people like anders but i'm very allergic to his "ok but if you really want to be friends with me you have to blindly support me 100%" rhetoric. especially considering what he does.
da:i: ahh. all the ladies! josephine, sera, vivienne. dorian's character arc is so great, too. gotta love bull and his chargers. i also love cass, even though i will never understand the writer's decision to make her straight.
honestly, the companions are the best part of any da game. i love those characters so much!
i also really enjoy that they have their own lives outside of the player character's story, particularly in da2, and also in da:i somewhat.
what about you? what are your favorite chars? (also, your favorite game, if you have one?)

Date: 2020-01-11 06:04 pm (UTC)Leliana or Morrigan are my favorites from DAO, and I love that we get to see them grow and change from DAO to DAI, even if I wish we had more of a chance to see them interact with them!!! I tend to prefer female characters, and I think there's a really nice symmetry between them, with Leliana's deliberate kindness and heretical faith in DAO (and the recognition of her past with Marjolaine) vs Morrigan's barbs and outright hostility, but also the recognition that she's been much more sheltered in many ways than Leliana and trying to unpack how much of this was because it was Flemeth's original plan for Morrigan as a vessel and a tool.
Isabela has my heart for DA2, now and forever. <3 I love the others too, but Isabela's use of charm and humor to deflect from the things that can hurt, the way she's always a step from leaving (because to be trapped or chained is the WORST) and how she can barely believe that you genuinely have her back through thick and thin? Oh my gosh, I love her.
It's harder for me to pick a favorite in DAI, mostly because I felt so frustrated with ON THE ONE HAND, I love a lot of the character banter and dynamics and little bits of implied history we pick up, but ON THE OTHER HAND I want to scream at the overall messages being sent when a) Sera is the only companion who can be dismissed at any time, b) Vivienne's personal quest is set up as this weird "Bring me the heart of Snow White" thing where it's almost like they're trying to cast her as the villain IN HER OWN QUEST before the reveal about Bastien, and c) Cassandra is straight???? what the hell????
But....Cassandra ended up being my favorite companion in terms of 'the character I brought to almost every mission,' and I find Vivienne utterly fascinating and compelling.
aaaaah thank you for giving me the chance to gush about my faves, I had almost forgotten just how many FEELS I had until they all came pouring out!!!

Date: 2020-01-17 06:17 pm (UTC)anyway, yes to all of this.
i really enjoy that about DA2 as well!! i love how much agency the companions have (in contrast to the player char being their boss in the widest sense as in DA:I and DA:O), too. the relationships feel so much more personal, too.
aaah i love the comparison and contrast you draw between morrigan and leliana!!
tbh i'm a bit heartbroken at DAI!Leliana and i don't think i'll ever recover from seeing her like that. the world was so harsh to her ;__;
100% agree about DAI. there's so many things that didn't work for me there - which is why i think the companions are the strongest part of the writing. i'm still mad at the big final reveal about the elves and their "gods". also flemeth being mythal?? nghh no thanks.
honest to god, vivienne was badly mistreated in her own quest. i also don't enjoy her being some dude's mistress, even if it was an "official arrangement." and then her whole quest evolves around that!! also, i'm still mad that they preferred to make her bald rather than creating natural hair models.
sure thing!!! i love gushing about these chars and reading other people's squee :D
