Hi everyone! I originally posted this to Tumblr, but since this looks like it may be my new fandom hub I'm testing the waters by reposting it here.

Since reblogging just isn't a thing on DW, please be sure to click through and support the authors with a kudos or a nice comment if you enjoy their work!

So! I love the Femslash Exchange and it’s a multifandom exchange, meaning it’s very easy to browse by fandom! There are a lot of great fics, but I wanted to make a rec post specifically for the Original Work category, which is the largest at 22 fics.

I am a slow reader (and rec-maker!) so in the spirit of the original anon period, I’m not including authors’ names in this post. Instead, we have wordcount and AO3 rating.
  • Into the Vast - 3.4k words - M - A bored and embittered space stewardess meets a star mermaid. I love how mundane the future seems, until we slide right into the uncanny encounter. It’s eerie and haunting and gives me good shivers.
  • The Final Will and Testament of the Most Glorious Golden Cabbage Throne - 3.5k words - G (the author’s rating; there is no explicit sex, but there is swearing and references to sex if that’s not your cuppa) - Delightfully absurd spy vs spy and a possible revolution in the making!
  • What the Frogs Knew - 1.5k words - G - This is an utterly charming fairytale mashup; the Frog Princess meets Sleeping Beauty, and I am in love with the way it’s told through first person POV, as one lover to another.
  • spreading wide my narrow Hands to gather Paradise - 4.8k words - M - A story about depression, starting over and moving on. Also with the help of a loving girlfriend who might just be an earth goddess. There are so many good things to say about this one, but I especially enjoy the character voice in this!
  • By the author of “Laura’s Dilemma”- 2.9k words - G - A Regency story, featuring a budding romance between a debutante and her sister’s governess! It’s warm and sweet and makes me utterly swoony.
  • Loved I not Honor more - 4k words - G - Restrained military ladies just might be my jam! Sergeant Lowe’s loyalty to the disgraced Captain Stern is a beautiful thing, and the way they navigate their roles and their understated attraction to one another is just. *chef kiss*
  • Marvellous Mezzo Maria — In & Out of Pants - 2.3k words - M - A comic opera in which a mezzo in pants steps in after their terrible tenor is unable to perform, saving the show and the soprano! This had me laughing and smiling all the way through, perfect for all your humorous romance needs.
  • Ten Percent for Luck - 4.6k words - M - Beautiful, richly textured worldbuilding and character dynamics. The plot itself is best summarized from the author: “The leytenant was good with explosives, and with humans. Rumor said she'd changed divisions because of political trouble. Zhanu followed her, because good officers were more important than rumors. At least, that's what Zhanu was thinking when she applied for the transfer.”

Welcome!

Hi, hello, welcome!

This post doesn’t really contain a lot of new information for anyone who was previously following me on Tumblr, but I figure an orientation is in order. This is a brand shiny new (to me) space, so I’m trying to organize things a bit better, since my Tumblr tagging system was a bit of a mess.

I’m mostly in video game fandoms, with a few others sprinkled in. I enjoy a lot more fandoms than I actually write, since it takes me a while to feel comfortable enough with a new canon to put my own spin on it. (For frame of reference, it usually takes me at least two playthroughs of a new game before I start writing fic for it.)

So in alphabetical order, I enjoy:

  • Borderlands (though I’ve only played BL2 and the Presequel)
  • Dishonored
  • Dragon Age
  • Fallout (3, 4, and New Vegas)
  • Harry Potter (mostly the books over the movies)
  • Horizon: Zero Dawn
  • Mass Effect
  • Pillars of Eternity (I’ve only played the first game and White March DLC, not Deadfire)
  • Prey
  • Shadowrun (Dragonfall and Hong Kong; I have no experience with the tabletop game)
  • Sunless Sea

I also enjoy Stardew Valley, Tolkien (LotR and the Hobbit), and Undertale, but don’t actively seek out content for them. Basically, I’ll like the cute art or share Feels, but don’t expect a lot of content creation!

I turned 30 this year and came later to fandom than most, when I was in my mid-20s. I fully admit I am not a ‘fandom old’ but more of an interested kibbitzer.

I’m mostly in fandom for the fic, and I write a lot! Mostly smut, mostly femslash and/or stuff featuring Real Big Dudes and femdom. I’m bi and write most characters as bi, unless they are specifically gay or lesbian in canon. I refer to my F/M ships as ‘F/M’ rather than ‘het,’ for the same reason I don’t call my F/F ships ‘lesbian’ when one or more people might be bi.

I believe very strongly in curating my own fandom experience, and until I figure out how to screen things better on Dreamwidth, please do not be offended if I do not immediately subscribe back or if I unfollow someone.

In general, my fandom philosophy is that I would rather take joy in sharing what I love than take pride in ripping something down. I can be very critical of the media I consume (especially in regard to queer content and how POC are treated by the narrative) but believe that I can still enjoy something while being aware of its flaws.

I am still figuring out how to tag and sort my posts, but as this account is still relatively empty I think it’s a good time to set up housekeeping! My current plans are to sort things by fandom (ex: “Fandom: Mass Effect”), relationship genre (ex: “Relationship: F/F”), ship with the character names in alphabetical order (ex: “Ship: Aveline/Isabela”), exchanges (ex: “Exchange: Femslash Exchange”) and the letters I use for exchanges. I will probably sort personal posts as “Personal” and meta by fandom and with a meta-specific tag, but that will take time to set up.

And if you survived this extremely lengthy post, congratulations! Thank you for your time. :)
