The irony is, one of the reasons I love Fallout's setting is because for post-apocalypse, it's actually pretty optimistic!!! We see people living their lives, most often trying to make their patch of the world a little bit better and by building off the remnants of what came before without trying to replicate or idealize the prewar era.
I'm always a little suspicious about narratives that try to use nonhuman characters as an allegory for real world marginalized groups, especially when it comes to race, but...yeah, ghouls and synths. Right there, if someone really wants to go that route in fanfic. (And also some jaded muttering about the willingness to write for whitepassing synths or ghoul characters rather than the canonical characters of color, but hey. We've already established I am full of salt.)
